Some of the programs overseen by the Safe Schools Program include:

Stranger Danger assemblies
Bike safety
Security surveillance
Substance abuse prevention
Project 9-1-1
School bus safety instruction
Traffic and crowd control at major YPS events
Creation and distribution of emergency policy manuals

In the event that there is a situation of critical concern, contact Safe Schools Program Coordinator, Ron Wiedbusch, (734) 323-6313 (Email: safe-schools@ypsd.org) or during school hours call Safe Schools Secretary Barbara Collins, (734) 714-1826.

The Safe Schools Program would like to share with you some safety suggestions from the Washtenaw County Road Commission for children to follow this winter:
For Children

  • Never build snow forts, make tunnels, or play in ditches or snow banks by the road
  • Stay away from the edge of the roadway as you wait for the school bus, get the mail, or watch the snow plow
  • Stay away from the end of a driveway when a snow plow is approaching
  • Keep sleds and toys away from the roadways at all times
  • Remember, the plow driver can't always see you
