Transportation Bus Rules & Regulations
All rules contained in the Uniform Code of Student Conduct and all school rules will be enforced in addition to the following:
BEFORE LOADING:
1. Be at the designated school bus stop five (5) minutes before the bus. The driver cannot wait for tardy students.
2. Stay off the road at all times while waiting for the bus. Students must conduct themselves in a safe manner at all times.
3. Designated bus stops are identified in accordance with state regulations and safety requirements.
4. If the student is late getting to the bus stop and it is necessary to cross the roadway, walk - DO NOT RUN - across the highway. Always watch for a signal from the bus driver before walking across the street and only cross at least 10 FEET IN FRONT OF THE BUS.
5. At school, wait for the bus in the assigned area only. Do not move toward the bus until the bus comes to a complete stop. Remain on the sidewalk - do not crowd around the
bus.
WHILE ON THE BUS:
1. Students shall board the bus in an orderly fashion and go directly to a seat and remain seated until the destination is reached.
2. Younger students should be permitted to board the bus first.
3. While students are on the bus, they must obey the driver. If seats are assigned, students must sit in their assigned seat.
4. Keep all parts of your body inside the bus at all times.
5. All articles carried on the bus must remain in the lap of the student. This includes band instruments.
6. There shall be no use of tobacco or lighting matches at any time on school buses.
7. There shall be no knives, sharp instruments or weapons of any kind on school buses.
8. There shall be no profane language at any time on school buses.
9. Never tamper with the bus or any of its equipment.
10. Do not throw anything on the
bus or out of the bus windows.
11. Do not leave papers and trash on the bus. Help keep the bus clean and orderly.
12. Students shall ride only their assigned bus. Special permission to do otherwise must be in writing from the parent/guardian and must be approved by the Principal before being transported to another existing stop.
13. In case of an emergency, remain on the bus unless directed by the bus driver to exit.
14. Keep the bus as quiet as possible. There will be no loud talking or yelling on the bus. Talking is prohibited at railroad crossings.
15. Enter or leave the bus only at the front door. Use rear door only in the case of an emergency.
16. Remain in your seat while the bus is moving. Drivers may assign seats to one or to all.
17. Each student shall wait until the bus has come to a complete stop before getting on or off.
18. Students should warn the driver of approaching danger if there is reason to believe the driver is not aware of the danger.
19. Students must identify themselves and their phone numbers to the driver when requested.
20. Parents will be notified, by means of a bus violation notice, if there is misconduct on the bus. Students may be denied the privilege of riding. While the law permits the school district to furnish transportation, parents are responsible for the behavior and safety of children while walking to and from school, and at an authorized bus stop. Because the bus is an extension of the classroom, students are required to follow all school rules while on the bus.
HOW PARENTS CAN HELP:
1. Provide necessary protection for their children when going to and from the bus.
2. Be sure that their children arrive at the bus stop on time in the morning. (Five minutes early)
3. Accept joint responsibility with the school for proper conduct of their children.
4. Make an effort to understand and cooperate with those responsible for student transportation.
5. It is the parent's responsibility to send written permission if they wish to have their children leave the bus other than at their regular stop. All kindergarten students must have an adult either waiting at the stop or visible from the stop or the students will be returned to Perry CDC. It is the parent's responsibility to assure the student arrives at the final destination. Again, it is highly recommended that an adult meet the child at the stop or be certain the child knows exactly where to go from the stop to reach their final destination.
6. Students who ride a bus on special trips must return on that bus unless written permission is received from the parent/guardian and approved by the athletic director or appropriate principal.
