YPS & U-M College of Engineering Initiative Gala
University of Michigan and Ypsilanti Public Schools Parentership Plan Presentation
Piquing the interest of students to consider careers in engineering is the catalyst for a partnership formed in 2006 between the U-M College of Engineering and YPS. In the spring of 2007 U-M engineering graduate students were already a presence in Ypsilanti High School Science classes. During the summer YHS science teachers and U-M graduate students participated in workshops to streamline the integration of the two institutions working side by side. The district administration is confident that the enhanced learning experience will raise student achievement and provide students with post-secondary educational direction. An improved learning culture, adding rigor to the classroom and increasing the number of minority students in the engineering field are all objectives of this collaboration.
