After school programs that target a variety of interests and educational enhancements are available in all buildings. Tutoring and skill building activities like chess, Spanish, math and vocabulary clubs are all geared toward engaging younger learners and propelling them to greater success in the classroom. The after school extracurricular menu expands in the middle schools to include physics, health and yearbook clubs and many sports programs including track, basketball, softball, soccer and volleyball. Once students reach the high school they have the option of writing for the school newspaper and the creative arts magazine, developing the content for the school yearbook, engaging in community service through the Key Club and National Honor Society and taking on challenges through the Altarum science competition, robotics, DECA business competition and many other stimulating activities. Ypsilanti High School offers a full athletic program that includes traditional sports like football, swimming, track and basketball along with tennis, golf and lacrosse. The fine arts program is noted for the exceptional student works that grace the halls of the high school and the award winning performing arts program are well known in the community and have traveled abroad to give students international exposure and an opportunity to showcase their talents to the world.
