Ypsilanti Adult Education offers classes to Michigan residents 20 years of age and older as of September 1st of the current school year. All classes are taught by certified, experienced teachers. A guidance counselor is available to conduct testing and assist students in their educational planning.
Ypsilanti Adult Education partners with Washtenaw Literacy, Washtenaw Community College, KET, and Workforce Development to provide an exceptional educational experience for our students.
Ypsilanti Adult Education offers ESL (English as a Second Language) classes on-site in the morning, afternoon, and evening. Pre-GED classes are available in the afternoon and include reading, writing, and math. GED Preparation is provided online in partnership with KET (Kentucky Educational Television). Students study from assigned texts. Students may attend a weekly on-site tutorial session if they need assistance.
Classes begin in September and end in late May or early June. There is a $15 annual registration fee. Classes are available at no or little cost to the student. A small tuition is charged for GED Prep and testing.
Registration for ESL classes takes place three times a year. A waiting list is maintained and students notified when new registrants are accepted. Registration for GED and Pre-GED classes is continuous and available throughout the school year.
Students must pre-test for placement into classes and test periodically for progress in their classes, using either the CASAS or TABE, depending on the program of instruction.
Our friendly and helpful staff is available at any time to assist in your educational planning.
Ypsilanti Adult Education believes all adults can learn and values the varied backgrounds and experiences of our adult students. Our purpose is to empower the adult student to meet the demands and responsibilities of everyday life in an ever-changing world.
