This is the backbone of the educational setting and is supported through a number of initiatives from Professional Learning Communities, comprised of teachers and principals collaborating to improve student achievement, to the introduction of Saturday School. Student achievement is at the core of every enrichment program that is pursued by the district's Educational Services department.
A cohesive and focused curriculum is in place at YPS and teaching staff continues to participate in extensive work sessions to create a successful and seamless transition for students as they move through the educational process. Curriculum mapping, a rigorous learning pace at all grade levels and supplemental programs to support students who are lagging in their core classes are hallmarks of the YPS learning experience. The district has adopted the philosophy that "Failure is Not an Option" and is evident in the focus of professional development sessions and the attitude of all principals, teachers and support staff. Our goal is to provide students with an excellent education along with extracurricular enhancements that will develop their minds, shape their character and encourage integrity.

Now with the start of a new school year, we have put in place better grading scales. (There is also a new grade scale for Advanced Placement (AP) classes). We have both on our web site, www.ypsd.org, and all the teachers will use it in their grade books as well as the grade reports. Click here for the new grade scale. YPS ADMINISTRATIVE GUIDELINES GRADING/ASSESSMENT SCALE
With this grading scale a student can attain the points they earn in their academic pursuits. All the grades from past years will stay the same. The accumulated grade point average will change only with the new grades earned this coming school year and after.
Grades are a form of communication and are given to help the student and the parent to gain a perspective on how well the student is grasping the content. These grades are based on academic work done in the classroom.
