School Closing Procedures

Severe Weather Closing Policy

The district will use the telephone messaging system to call all parents when schools are closed due to severe weather, road conditions or building mechanical problems. It is important for every student to have a working telephone number on file at the school office. In addition, we will continue to notify local radio and television stations concerning school closings or transportation delays. You may continue to monitor local media outlets throughout the school day when threatening weather approaches. If the announcement states that buses will run on MAIN ROADS ONLY, buses will not travel on secondary roads.

MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT

Dear Parents:
Superintendents in the ten Washtenaw County public school districts use a uniform guideline to determine school closings due to frigid weather. The group arrived at a consensus to close school when the wind chill factor reaches minus 20 degrees. Ypsilanti Public Schools will continue to use the same methods to notify our students and staff when school is closed which includes a phone call home and broadcasts on local and major radio and television stations. I'd like to remind parents to please dress children properly for weather conditions.
