YHS student to visit Japan. Matthew Hughes, who will be an Ypsilanti High School senior in the fall, is one of three American students selected to participate in the Japanese Language Program for High School Students, sponsored by the Japan Foundation. Matthew has been taking Japanese language classes for about three years and was nominated for the program by his Japanese language teacher, Kaori Ohaia. He will spend two weeks in July learning more about the culture and language of the country. Matthew will stay in Osaka but will visit Tokyo, Hiroshima and Kyoto. Details: (734) 482-0111.

Health teacher wins award. West Middle School health teacher Amelia Skwiers has been named a recipient of the Michigan Team Nutrition Star Award. She was recognized as a role model for promoting healthy eating and physical activity at the middle school. Details: (734) 714-1327.

Annie replay. The Erickson Elementary spring musical production of "Annie" will premiere on Community Television Network, Cable Channel 17 at 3:30 p.m. June 20. The performance will continue to air throughout the remainder of the month. Details: (734) 769-7422, ext. 1503.

Knock, Knock. The Ypsilanti Public Schools staff will participate in the Door to Door Campaign, an initiative to inform residents about the benefits of an YPS education. Staff will be engaged in the activity during the evening of June 19. Details: (734) 714-1202.
