Coach Poole
Head Coach |
Coach Poole was raised in Dearborn Heights and graduated from Annapolis High School in 1971. He earned varsity letters in baseball, swimming, and football and was awarded and recognized in all three sports with all city and all league honors for each year he participated. After High School Coach Poole attended Olivet College where he received his B.A. in Education and participated in Baseball and Football. He was a starting member of the 1975 MIAA football championship team. After receiving his B.A., Coach Poole enrolled in the masters program at the University of Michigan-Dearborn where he received his Masters in education with honors. Coach Poole is currently a physical education, swimming and life saving teacher at Ypsilanti High School and has been the head varsity football coach since 2005. In his 4 seasons as head coach, Poole has led the team to a 25 - 13 overall record and back to back MHSAA state playoff appearances in 2006 and 2007. His teams also won MEGA league championships in 2006 and 2007. His Persistent hard work for an education in and out of the classroom is the key to his success. Coach Poole has a strong belief that respecting others, respecting yourself and being responsible for your own actions allows a young man to achieve success with pride and dignity. |

Coach Sheffield

Coach Sheffield was an all state wide receiver in Ohio and played in the "Big 33 Bowl" which involved the states of Ohio & Pennsylvania. Next, he attended Eastern Michigan University, where he became the all-time leading wide receiver hooking up with Ypsilanti's own Walter Church. After graduation Coach Sheffield played arena football with the Peoria Pirates, where he won a National Championship and accumulated over 1,000 receiving yards. Coach Sheffield began coaching at Ypsilanti in 2006. |
Coach McGriff

Kevin McGriff graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1997. Coach McGriff was a three sport athlete including football, wrestling, and baseball. After graduating he attended Michigan State University and Washtenaw Community College. Coach McGriff has an Associates Degree in Humanities and Social Sciences. He is currently attending Eastern Michigan University where he is planning to obtain a degree in Special Education. He has been coaching with the YHS program since 2003. The first two years being at the Junior Varsity level, while moving up to Varsity in the fall of 2005. |
| Coach Hatch

Marcus Hatch was born and raised in Ypsilanti where he graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1998. Coach Hatch played defensive line for the Braves for three years. In 2001 he began playing Defensive Line / Linebacker for the Michigan Twisters, a minor league football organization until he retired in 2005. In 2002 he celebrated with his teammates as they won the national championship. Coach Hatch also began coaching while he played for the Twisters. He was an assistant coach for the Taylor Junior Football League from 2001 – 2003. In 2004 he coached Junior Varsity Football at Willow Run Middle School. In 2005 he began coaching at Ypsilanti High School. |

Charles Hall returns as the Braves Offensive Line coach where he has coached since 2005. Coach Hall also works with the Tight Ends. Coach Hall began coaching at Ypsilanti High School in 2002 after spending six years in Ann Arbor and six years with the Ypsilanti Huron Braves. From 2005 to 2007 the Braves offensive line blocked for 1,000 yard rushers. Coach Hall coordinates the Braves College visit program. This program was established in 2005 and is aimed at taking players to visit, tour, and experience University campuses in the Midwest. Coach Hall was raised in Detroit and moved to Ypsilanti in 1976 to attend the University of Michigan. Coach Hall currently resides in the City of Ann Arbor. |

Broderick Smith has coached youth football within the city of Ypsilanti since 1997. Coach Smith has a quest to empower youth with knowledge of the game of football, but more importantly early life skills. Coach Smith prides himself in mentoring young men and helping build strong character. He also played and coached five years of semi–pro football where he was an all-star at defensive back during the 1996 season with the Motor City Cougars. Broderick was born in Florence, Alabama but has been a native of Ypsilanti for 35 years, Broderick currently live in Ypsilanti Township with his family. Coach Smith began coaching at Ypsilanti High School in 2005 as the offensive coordinator for the Junior Varsity team. |

Adrien Antaya was a four year player at Adrian College, where he received his B.A. in English. Adrien previously coached at Kennedy High School in Taylor where he was the Junior Varsity Defensive Coordinator and Junior Varsity Offensive Line Coach. In the Spring of 2006, he began coaching Girl's Shot-Put and Discuss at Ypsilanti High School. A former elementary school Spanish teacher, Coach Antaya has now been teaching Spanish at YHS since 2006. Coach Antaya is now proud to be part of the YHS Braves football coaching staff. |
