603 DRAMA I
Full Year
9-10-11-12
Drama offers an introduction
to basic acting techniques. Through the use of
vocal exercises, theater games, improvisation,
pantomime, and the enactment of scenes from various
sources, the student discovers the elements of
the actors craft: listening, concentration, imagination,
emotional recall, observation, characterization,
voice and movement for the actor. Students will
be required to participate in performances for
the public; attendance is mandatory. This class
will not fulfill the physical education requirement.
606 DRAMA II
Full Year
10-11-12
Prerequisite: Drama AND permission of the instructor.
This course concentrates on
advanced acting techniques. It includes extensive
scene study and actors prepare monologues and
scenes from classic and contemporary plays. Units
of study vary from year to year depending on the
interests and talents of the students enrolled.
They may include: make-up, play directing, dialects
(accents), audition technique, script writing,
dance, mime, critical analysis, and other areas
of theatrical production. Students will produce
and perform a full length play as the final class
project. Students may elect this class more than
once as the content is different each year. This
class will fulfill the Physical Education Requirement.
600 PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY
Semester
10-11-12
Prequisisite: Drama I AND permission of the instructor.
This course focuses on the
technical aspects of play production, such as
designing and building sets, painting sets, lighting,
props, sounds, costumes, and production management
skills. It is designed as a hands-on class to
help with the technical aspects of YHS plays and
musicals.
609 VARSITY CHOIR
Full Year
9-10-11-12
Varsity Choir may be elected
by those students who demonstrate adequate singing
ability in an audition. The choir will concentrate
on basic singing techniques, and developing music
reading skills. Performances will be scheduled
throughout the school year and are a required
part of the course, unless the student is excused
by the instructor for special reasons. Students
must show reasonable musical progress to maintain
membership in Freshman Choir. This class will
fulfill the Physical Education requirement.
613 CONCERT CHOIR
Full Year
10-11-12
Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.
This course may be selected
by those students who have demonstrated a high
level of singing ability through an audition.
The Concert Choir studies a wide variety of music
in preparation for various public performances.
All performances are a required part of the course
unless the student is excused by the instructor
for special reasons. Before or after school rehearsals
may be required by the director. This class will
fulfill the Physical Education requirement.
619 WOMEN'S CHORUS
Full Year
10-11-12
Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.
This choir performs music of
a varied nature, including classical choral music
for Festival competitions, and pop and show tunes
which are often choreographed. All performances
are a required part of the course. This class
will fulfill the Physical Education requirement.
623 SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
Full Year
9-10-11-12
Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.
The Symphony Orchestra is open
to all string players who can demonstrate the
required level of musical proficiency and an appropriate
sense of ensemble teamwork. Wind and percussion
players will be selected by the conductor from
the Band with the approval of the Director of
Bands. The Symphony Orchestra will explore the
range of orchestral music from Baroque to Contemporary.
This ensemble will participate in festivals, adjudications,
concerts and excursions. The string orchestra
will meet every school day with at least four
full orchestra rehearsals prior to a concert in
which the full orchestra will perform. On rare
occasions, the full Symphony Orchestra will rehearse
after school or in the evening prior to concert
dates. All performances and scheduled events of
the Symphony Orchestra are requirements of the
course; attendance is mandatory. This class will
fulfill the physical education requirement.
626 PIANO
Semester
10-11-12
This course is designed for all levels of piano
skill. The fundamentals of piano playing will
be covered, as well as musical fundamentals as
they pertain to the beginning piano player. Advanced
students will work on skill improvement. A variety
of musical styles will be covered. Emphasis will
be placed on learning to read music. This course
may be taken more than once with permission of
the instructor.
629 VARSITY BAND
Full Year
9-10-11-12
Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.
Students that demonstrate rudimentary
proficiency on their instrument, by an audition,
may elect the Varsity Band. Members participate
in concerts, Solo and Ensemble Festival, Band
festivals, and in school and community events.
Members of the Varsity Band may elect to participate
in the Marching Braves. Students must demonstrate
reasonable progress during the year in order to
maintain membership in the Varsity Band. All performances
are a required part of the course. This class
will fulfill the Physical Education requirement.

Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.
The Symphonic Band is open

level of instrumental proficiency, deemed adequate
through an audition. The finest in band literature
will be studied in preparation for concerts, Band
Festivals, Solo and Ensemble Festivals, school
and community events, and tours. Members of the
Symphonic Band may elect to participate in the
Marching Braves. The Band Director will schedule
occasional after school rehearsals. Students must
show reasonable musical progress on their instruments
in order to maintain membership in the Symphonic
Band. All performances are a required part of
the course. This class will fulfill the Physical
Education requirement.
636 WIND SYMPHONY
Full Year
9-10-11-12
Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor.
The Wind Symphony is open to
those students who have demonstrated the highest
level of instrumental proficiency through an audition.
The finest in wind literature will be studied
in preparation for concerts, Band Festivals, Solo
and Ensemble Festivals, school and community events,
and tours. Members of the Wind Symphony may also
elect to participate in the Marching Braves. The
Band Director will schedule before and/or after
school rehearsals, as needed. Students must show
reasonable musical progress on their instruments
in order to maintain membership in the Wind Symphony.
All performances are a required part of the course.
This class will fulfill the Physical Education
requirement.
639 JAZZ BAND
Full Year
9-10-11-12
Prerequisite: Permission of the instructor
The Jazz Band will rehearse and perform a wide
variety of classical and contemporary jazz compositions.
Much time is spent developing improvisatorial
skills. All performances are required and students
must also be a regular member of one of the other
bands or the orchestra. This class will fulfill
the Physical Education requirement.
