ACT and SAT Testing Dates (for 2008-09)

Parents needing to contact a high school counselor can call the counseling department at 714-1010. Counselors this year are assigned to the following students:

ACT Test Preparation Workshop
An ACT Test Prepration Workshop will be offered to prepare 10th and 11th grade students who plan to take the ACT during the winter or spring. Timed practice sections covering each area of the test - English, Math, Reading, The New Essay, and Science Reasoning - will be give under test conditions. There will be discussions on test taking skills and strategies, review of all instructions, timing techniques, guessing, avoidance of common errors, and development of positive thinking.

Time	9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (11:45 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. break-NO FOOD SERVICE
Cost	$75.00 (Bring 2 sharpened pencils, note paper, and a calculator. All other materials will be provided)

Tutoring Opportunities
The counseling department has compiled a list of many tutoring opportunities available to students this year. This list is available in the counseling office. We encourage parents and students to pick one up.

ECA (Early College Alliance ) at EMU
This program is open to current 9th and 10th graders. Applications are available now and are due Jan. 7, 2009. Pick one up in the YHS Counseling Office or download one at the ECA website: www.earlycollegealliance.org. Call 487-4290 for more information.

Scholarship Board
The counseling department continually receives scholarship information throughout the year. These scholarships are posted in the counseling office and on the YHS website. Seniors should get into the habit of stopping by on a regular basis to see what opportunities are available.

Also, students can use web based scholarship searches like www.fastweb.com and www.wiredscholars.com.

ACT and SAT Testing Dates (for 2008/09)
The ACT and SAT are college admissions tests. These tests are given nationally throughout the school year. Typically the fall dates are for seniors and the winter/spring dates are for juniors.

ACT dates:
December 13 th (register by Nov. 7 th)
February 7 th (register by Jan. 6 th)
April 4 th (register by Feb. 27 th)
June 13 th (register by May 8 th)

SAT dates:
December 6 th (register by Nov. 5 th)
January 24 th (register by Dec 26 th)
March 14 th (register by Feb. 10 th)
May 2 nd (register by Mar. 31 st)
June 6 th (register by May 5 th)
